Is Online Gambling Legal in North Carolina?

North Carolina residents looking for online gambling have several different options available to them. At present, sports betting and lottery games are legal in North Carolina but no regulated online casinos or other forms of iGaming such as iCasinos exist yet – which would provide convenience for residents wanting to wager on their favorite teams from home! Luckily for all who enjoy it!

North Carolina, though still relatively young in its existence, has already taken steps toward legalizing gambling in some forms. Residents now can place bets on professional and collegiate sporting events; also the lottery commission began accepting wagers online. This new system should increase sports revenues while enabling schools to spend more on scholarships, facilities and programs.

On Monday, just in time for this week’s ACC basketball tournament, North Carolina saw its inaugural sportsbooks launch online and offline betting services. Last year’s legislature approved legal sports gambling within state boundaries; and eight companies have since been licensed by the lottery commission to operate it; these include DraftKings, FanDuel, ESPN Bet and Fanatics among many others.

Sports betting is available via mobile devices like smartphones and tablets, with easy-to-use websites and apps designed for easy navigation that feature an expansive library of betting markets such as props, teasers and parlays. Apps also provide safe and efficient deposits/withdrawals through PayPal/credit cards/e-wallets (the minimum deposit amount being $10). Some sites accept cash payments at 7-Eleven stores via PayNearMe allowing instant and secure money transfers instantly from smartphone.

North Carolina currently hosts three tribal casinos offering various casino games directly. The Catawba Indian Nation opened a temporary casino in Rockingham that opened in 2021; two Cherokee tribe casinos can be found on their reservations in Western North Carolina. State lawmakers have expressed an interest in adding more casinos; surveys suggest 45% support expansion while 29% oppose it.

North Carolina recently legalized online sports betting but does not yet permit real-money casino gaming online. State legislators may look at legalizing iCasinos soon and launch them by 2020, which would bring many economic benefits. A casino would attract tourists, jobs and tax revenue; North Carolina can take advantage of this trend. iGaming industry growth could provide even further economic development benefits.
